The 5th Memphis Blues Festival was held at Overton Park Shell in Memphis Tennessee during October 1970. The festival was headlined by Delta blues singer and guitarist Bukka White and also featured a long list of artists who made up the southern country blues revival of the late 1960’s, including Furry Lewis.

Bukka White was a first cousin of B.B. King’s mother (White’s mother and King’s grandmother were sisters). Bob Dylan covered his song “Fixin’ to Die Blues” on his 1962 debut album which helped stir a rediscovery of Bukka’s blues music among fans of the genre.
