Working Title: See That My Grave is Kept Clean

Why is this historic Memphis cemetery so deeply neglected, and who has been impacted? A short documentary is in production about efforts to clean up Hollywood Cemetery, the final resting place of blues legend Furry Lewis.

A feature documentary, which will delve more deeply into the history – and future – of Hollywood Cemetery is in development. Families have been unable, in many cases, to even lay their eyes on the resting place of their loved ones. A neglected cemetery is not just an eyesore, it’s a sign of deep disrespect to those buried there. It can also attract criminal activity, creating a public security risk. Our film follows the efforts of a group of artists, musicians, family members, and community members as they work to restore and preserve. Hollywood Cemetery.
