Dear Team and Supporters,
Thank you to everyone who logged on for our latest Zoom meeting! We are moving forward rapidly on both the physical restoration of Hollywood Cemetery and our creative fundraising initiatives.
Here is the latest news and updates from the task force to keep you in the loop:

1. Creative Fundraising: Furry Lewis Prints & Magnets

  • Furry Lewis Fine Art Prints: We are thrilled to announce that Johnice Parker’s incredible drawing of Furry Lewis, paired with Furry’s authentic signature, is officially finalized and ready to be made into high-quality prints for our upcoming fundraising campaigns. This will be a beautiful way for supporters to own a piece of Memphis blues history while directly funding the cemetery’s reclamation.
  • Donor Magnets Shipping Soon: The custom Furry Lewis guitar case magnets are officially ready to go out to everyone who has donated to the project! If you have already made a contribution but haven’t given us your shipping information, please contact us with your current mailing address so we can send this token of appreciation your way.

2. Connecting with Blues Royalty: Charlie Musselwhite

  • An Incredible Lead: In an amazing bit of networking, Tav Falco has generously shared the direct email contact for legendary blues harmonica player Charlie Musselwhite.
  • A Living Link to History: Charlie was a close friend of Furry Lewis back in the day and is still actively touring and playing harp at blues shows. We will be reaching out to him very soon to discuss the project, share our preservation efforts, and preserve his memories of Furry.

3. On-The-Ground Landscaping Timeline

  • Mid-Week Completion: Ryan Payne’s Cutting Edge Landscaping crew has been working tirelessly on the property. We are cross-referencing their progress and are highly optimistic that this intensive phase of heavy clearing and site stabilization will be fully completed by this Wednesday.

4. Media, Digital, & Team Progress Reports

We are calling on our core committees for their weekly updates as we finalize our next steps:

  • Website & Film Committee: We are looking for the latest progress reports from Augusta, Melinda, or Amanzi regarding the timeline for the documentary film production and our official website updates.
  • General Team Updates: If any other task force or board members have updates regarding historical research, legal tracking, or community outreach, please reply or bring your notes to our next session!
